Paul McCartney Reunites With Rihanna Up In The Air, Talks Grandparenting

“FourFiveSeconds” collaborators Paul McCartney and Rihanna bumped into each other on a first class flight to London on Friday (November 29th). The pop star posted footage of the pair joking in the air, as McCartney popped over to say hello to Rihanna, with her filming the exchange for her Instagram feed. Rihanna says, “I'm about to put you on blast, Mr. McCartney. How are you on this flight?”

The former-Beatle jokes back: “What's going on here? Who is this filming me?” Rihanna responded by joking: “Who is this peasant filming this legend?”

Paul McCartney says that he's a “pretty normal granddad” — and sometimes even picks the kids up from school. During a recent chat on England's Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, the 77-year-old “Macca” revealed a personal side about being the grandfather to eight kids — between the ages of eight and 20 — from his daughters Mary and Stella.

He admitted: “Y'know, I love them and I love being a granddad. And we spend quite a good bit of time together. We don’t live near each other, but we go on holiday together, like Christmas. And in the summer we’ll see each other. And then sometimes me and (my wife) Nancy pick them up from school. So that’s nice. It’s great fun, y'know, because you don’t know how to do it like parenting. It’s ad lib, it’s the biggest ad lib. So when grandparenthood comes around, it’s like, 'OK, what do we do here?’ And so I say that joy is like picking them up at school and they love it.'”

McCartney went on to say, “I don’t think it’s just us, I think it’s also the ice cream that’s got something to do with it! So you do all those things, y' know, and you can play with them and stuff. And then as everyone always says there’s the hand-off factor. 'He has just pooped his pants love, here. Over to you.'”

During a recent chat with NBC's Today, McCartney was asked if early on his grandchildren had any idea how popular and recognizable he was: “No, they didn't. Y'know, I say, 'People come to see me!' (Laughter) 'People pay to come and see me — I'm famous!' (They say) 'Yeah, yeah, we're watching TV.' They gradually get the fame thing. They get, like, people always wanting a photo of me — but they're very. . . they're very cool with it.”
